Winter as subject has a long tradition in Swiss photography. Snow and cold transform a landscape completely, hiding many of its features and reducing it to contrasts, surfaces and structures. Winter extends an invitation to rediscover a place and look at it differently. Light and shadow, traces and structures appear on a landscape like a drawing on a blank sheet. Many artists and photographers are inspired by this formal potential of winter.
